Internationally renowned architect, Daniel Libeskind is in Dublin to officially launch ‘Grand Canal Square’ on behalf of property developers Chartered Land. Libeskind will be addressing members of Ireland’s business community on Dublin’s new cultural and commercial quarter, at The Royal College of Physicians, No 6 Kildare Street this afternoon.

Studio Daniel Libeskind has designed a new theatre and two superb new office buildings at Grand Canal Square. The diamond shaped West End-style 2,000 seater theatre is the centrepiece of the scheme, which is currently under construction by Sisk builders and due to be completed by 2010. The theatre is complemented by 380,000 sq ft of adjacent luxury office suites – Number 2, Number 4 and Number 5, Grand Canal Square all arranged around the Marta Schwartz Square. Each office building enjoys its own distinct profile and identity with striking sculptured shapes and a high performance doubled layered glass façade.

Dominic Deeny, Chief Executive of Chartered Land said “Chartered Land is delighted to have Daniel Libeskind in Dublin today, to talk through the design and vision behind Dublin’s newest quarter, Grand Canal Square. Daniel’s designs mark an exciting step forward in delivering an architectural legacy for the Docklands and city of Dublin.”

In July 2007, BCM Hanby Wallace, one of Ireland’s leading law firms, announced plans to relocate its head office to Number 2, Grand Canal Square to a new ‘state of the art’ office building of 150,000 sq. ft. Bannons & HT Meagher O’Reilly are acting as letting agents on the balance of the scheme.

The area is well served by public transport with the DART at Grand Canal Dock, the new C1 Luas line due for completion by 2009 and the four lane Samuel Beckett Memorial Bridge, which is currently under construction, will link Sir John Rogersons Quay and Guild Street.
